Our own CPLC volunteers serve as a contact between the communities within 55 Division and the police. Discover how we're making an impact.
"Police and community leaders alike recognize the need for a well-defined role for local citizens to make their communities safer. As the Unit Commander at 55 Division, I'm particularly proud of our own CPLC team. Our consultative members are truly full partners and together, we're making a difference.
Our 55 Division CPLC supports our diverse communities through a variety of local CPLC programs. We regularly host Community Town Halls, working with city councillors, advocacy groups and community leaders. We support our youth through the Valerie Mah Scholarship fund, our Police Officer for a Day program and various other initiatives. And we continue to support our seniors, especially those who were the most affected by COVID.
I look forward to growing the CPLC's efforts, cultivating new leaders and continuing to build an inclusive, collaborative process to make 55 Division a sustainable, safe community in which to live, work and play."
Supt. Kimberley O'Toole
Toronto Police Service, 55 Division
"As Civilian Co-Chair of the 55 Division Community Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), I work closely with all members of our group to engage the community in community relations, crime prevention, education and communications initiatives. For example, the 55 Division CPLC operates a bursary program that supports youth with their post secondary school studies. We also hold a grade-5 student writing competition, where the successful participant gets to become Police Officer for a Day. These and other initiatives improve community relations and build trust, important elements in community policing.
I joined the CPLC 26 years ago as a youth member, while attending East York Collegiate Institute (EYCI). It’s an honour to visit EYCI each fall to present successful applicants with their bursary during commencement ceremonies.
My goal as CPLC co-chair is to help increase visibility of the CPLC and our objectives: to develop a social media strategy; form close partnerships with school leaders; and to align sub-committees to reflect the needs of our neighborhood demographics.
Please reach out to me for more information on how to become a 55 Division CPLC member. Thank you for your support and partnership! "
Civilian Co-Chair, 55 Division CPLC
The CPLC works to develop solutions to local concerns and gives people access and input into the local decision-making process. It empowers citizens to improve the safety of their own communities while ensuring that no group is excluded in the process.
